Book review: Settle's "The Virginia Continental Line in the Revolution's Southern Campaigns "

Due to wartime consolidations, unit transfers, and the capture of almost all of Virginia's Continental troops at the fall of Charleston, SC in 1780; following the movements of the remaining Virginia forces is difficult and confusing. Smaller detachments were at times referred to by both commanding officer's names and new duplicate numbered regiments in primary documents as well as 19th century pension applications.  John C. Settle's "The Virginia Continental Line in the Revolution's Southern Campaigns " does an excellent job of clarifying the movements and the composition of various detachments in the chaotic final years of the American Revolution in a concise, accessible manner. I highly recommend picking this up if you have an interest in post 1780 Virginia and Southern campaign Revolutionary War military history.

Massachusetts Provincial Small Arms of the Louisbourg Expedition- 1745

My new article "Massachusetts Provincial Small Arms of the Louisbourg Expedition- 1745" is featured in the June issue of "Man at Arms" Magazine ( Vol 47 no 3). Primary documents and archeological specimens tell the unlikely tale of English guns made for the African trade in use by Massachusetts soldiers during the 1745 siege of Louisbourg, Nova Scotia.
